Bobby Michaels was known for his popular songs like Anything That Costs Me Nothing and My Redeemer is Faithful and True which he co-wrote with Steven Curtis Chapman.

Bobby Michaels Passed Away

It is difficult to have to tell you that Bobby went home to be with our Lord after suffering a heart attack on March 31, during a mission trip to Southeast Asia. While ministering at a pastor's conference in Cambodia, he collapsed at the end of a teaching session. The Cambodian doctors who first cared for him said his heart was damaged and he needed special treatment that could not be provided in country, so he was med-evac'ed to a hospital in Bangkok. For 10 days in the hospital's CCU, he received extraordinary medical care, but in the end his heart was unable to sustain him.

While in the hospital, Rachel (our daughter) and I were so encouraged as we learned of the thousands of prayer warriors who were interceding for him. We were strengthened by all of the prayers, encouraging notes, and phone calls that we received during Bobby's hospitalization. Our sorrow is so deep...and there are times that I just don't want to face life without my Bobby...but our Lord has unmistakably shown Himself faithful to me for 50 years and it is certain He will continue to make His steadfast love known in these times ahead for all of us. Bobby was a treasure beyond words to me and the twenty years we shared was a total gift from the Lord that I will never understand or deserve, but gratefully appreciate with wonder.

Bobby's memorial celebration was beautiful. Many thanks to all of the family and friends who came to share in the celebration of his life. Two of our special friends, Dan Plourde (our pastor at Calvary Chapel Jupiter) and Jim McCandliss (a MII Board member and 20 year friend) shared "Bobby stories" that brought tears and smiles to everyone.

Many of you have asked, "What's going to happen to Musicianaries now"? The Lord has clearly laid it on our hearts to continue to carry out the vision that He gave Bobby 25 years ago and to go forward and deliver the Good News that will change nations-one person, one heart at a time. The Musicianaries' Board of Directors is in the process of formulating the plans of how we'll be moving ahead.

We already have our leadership team in place to direct our July "Rice For Cambodia" mission trip where we anticipate giving out over 400 tons of rice. Please pray for our staff as we work through all of these details for this outreach. Also please pray for the Lord to direct all of the reorganization plans, that we will have His wisdom and insight to follow His leading.

Thank you for standing with me and the family as we continue the work that Bobby so faithfully started. I would love to hear from you when you have a moment to respond, lee@bobbymichaels.com.

Steven Curtis Chapman, Christian music's most decorated singer and songwriter, took home top honors at the 40th annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards on Thursday night, earning trophies in the artist and songwriter of the year categories.

For Chapman and his family in attendance at the Grand Ole Opry House, the night was bittersweet. Chapman performed the song "Cinderella" from his 2007 release This Moment, the song serving as a focal point for the remembrance of the Chapmans' youngest child, Maria Sue, who was killed in a tragic accident last year. It offered one of the Doves' most emotional moments.

"I know the reason why I think we're standing here is not something we ever would have signed up for," Chapman said, with wife Mary Beth by his side and sons Caleb and Will Franklin watching from the front row. "Our hope is not in this life, and thank you all for communicating that, and communicating it more boldly. If we can say anything as a family, a broken family having lost our little girl, it's to let this hope make us so bold."

Chapman thanked supporters for their prayers, love and support in picking up the songwriter award during the event's pre-show, where the bulk of the awards were presented.

Nashville native Brandon Heath stood out as one of the night's other big winners, taking home three trophies (male vocalist, song of the year and pop/contemporary recorded song) for work on his sophomore record, What If We.

Heath has been vocal about his inner conflict between being a songwriter and an artist, but on a night when he was recognized for both, he said he couldn't choose which meant more to him.

"I think I would have said songwriter last week, but I've been thinking a lot about the male vocalist thing this week," Heath said backstage. "I was shocked, but God tends to use us in ways that we don't expect him to. I knew that I could sing, but I didn't think that I was going to be a voice for the Lord. I count it a privilege and I know I say things at times I wish we could go back and edit, but if it shows my imperfection, let the world see I as a believer am anything but perfect."

Contemporary Christian favorites Casting Crowns won three awards, including the band's fifth consecutive group of the year honor.

The band recently returned from its second trip to North Korea at the behest of Global Resource Services, a nongovernmental organization that has worked in the country for more than 17 years.

"For us, North Korea has stopped becoming this big, ominous thing but rather people that we know now, so that really helped us a lot," said lead vocalist/songwriter Mark Hall. "We hope we're just one tiny little part of relationships forming where something good comes of it."

Other big winners included top female vocalist Natalie Grant, who took home her fourth consecutive award, and four-man band Tenth Avenue North, dubbed new artist of the year.

The night also featured special honors including the Gospel Music Channel's Angel award to veteran band Jars of Clay for their work with Blood:Water Mission, a charitable aid organization; a noting of the loss of David "Pop" Winans, the patriarch of the Winans clan; a recognition of the recent inductees to the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame; and a nod to Sandi Patty's 30 years in gospel music.

Patty then took the stage to lead a tribute to the late Dottie Rambo, performing Rambo's classic "We Shall Behold Him," which Patty sang at her first Dove appearance 27 years
ago.

Four more of Rambo's classic songs were presented by artists such as country legend Ronnie Milsap, Larnelle Harris, Kim Hopper, Brian Free & Assurance, Jason Crabb, and Rambo's daughter Rita Rambo McGuire, son-in-law Dony McGuire and granddaughter Destiny Rambo McGuire.

Why it takes you so long to release Sandi Patty's Song for the Journey Album? Is it because Sandi has left INO Records? She will be working with Stylo Records, a new company. Please respond to this query.
